Humboldt Penguin National Reserve

The Humboldt Penguin National Reserve is one of the biggest national reserves of Chile. This park constitutes of around 859.3 hectares of land. The Humboldt Penguin National Reserve is said to be formed by three important islands namely Damas, Choros, and Chanaral De Aceituno island. This national reserve is famous for its variety of flora and fauna. This park is actually located near the Atacama region and the Coquimbo regions.

    You can reach Humboldt Penguin National Reserve both by land as well as air. First you have to reach La Serena from Santiago either by air or by land. After you reach La Serena, you have to take a land route to Los Choros. The village of Los Choros is very near to the Humboldt Penguin National Reserve and if you want to go to the Isla Damas you have to hire boats from the fishermen living there

    You can visit the Humboldt Penguin National Reserve year round as it is open for the tourists every day. When we speak of the climate of the Humboldt Penguin National Reserve we have to say that the climate is temperate. There is heavy fog during the morning in the park but it disappears during the midday. During the summer season it is extremely hot.

    The Humboldt Penguin National Reserve is known for its large collection of Humboldt penguins, Magellanic penguins, bottle necked penguins, sea lions, chungungos, Ilacas and many more things. During the summers you can also have a look at the marine turtles, whales, dolphins, cormorants as well as albatrosses.

  • Entrance Fee

    The entrance fee for the children in Humboldt Penguin National Reserve is CLP $600 and that for the adults it is CLP $1,600.
