| General Description: The Malalcahuello National Reserve is situated on the northern part of the region of La Araucanía and is pitted against the setting of the imposing Lonquimay volcano. The Malalcahuello National Reserve was established in 1931. The natural reserve expands for a surface area of 30,206 acres, which includes even the Lonquimay volcano.

The Malalcahuello National Reserve is a small enclosed area and is home to an interesting variety of flora and fauna. The slopes of the volcano give refuge to a number of exotic species of plants and animals. Trees like the oaks, raulíes and coigües lend the forest a whole new color while the streams outline the reserve with a shade of blue. Of all the types of plants that are available it is the ancient Araucaria tree, which stands out because of its extraordinary texture and beauty. The whole of the national reserve is carpeted with a range of colors in the palette of blue and green. The Araucaria is a plant of the higher altitudes.

The Malalcahuello National Reserve can be visited during any time of the year and can be reached either by roads or by air. The major tourist attractions near the national reserve are the Conguillío National Park, Lonquimay, Las Raíces tunnel, Nalcas National Reserve and the Galletué Lake National Reserve. A fixed entry fee is charged from the adults and children, while entering this national reserve. This reserve is under protection from the state government.
