| General Introduction to the El Morado Natural Monument:
The El Morado Natural Monument is situated at a distance of an hour and a half's drive from Santiago, in the region of the Cajón del Maipo. This region houses the river Maipo canyon and the Rio Morales canyon. The hills that surround this region are a part of the Andes mountain range. The extreme climatic conditions force the authorities to keep the El Morado Natural Monument closed from May to September. The months between March and December are the best time to visit this natural monument. The El Morado hills are the highest of all the mountain ranges that surround the natural monument. The El Morado hills lie at an elevation of 6,596 ft above the sea level. This mountain range has an imposing presence in the area of this natural monument.

The El Morado Natural Monument is famous for housing some of the rarest species of birds and animals. Of its wild inhabitants, the large hummingbirds, the Cometocino and the austral thrush are the most noticeable. The Andean trees, the mountain olive, the white herb as well as the foxtail plants contribute to the natural monument's green foliage.
